Short and Sweet

I've been working on a project for quite some time called A.M.O.K.'s Outside the Box Idea Box. The idea behind the concept is short, Bible based art projects that can be done independently or as the foundation for a lesson plan. The following is a sampling for you to try. Let me know how they work for you.

  1. Why we pray: Paint or draw a picture of something you are praying for. Hang it up as a reminder to pray. Look up and memorize 1 Thessalonians 5:17. Why is it important to pray continually? Make a list of people to pray for and pray for them every day.

  2. Gratitude is an attitude: Paint or draw a picture of something or someone you are thankful for. Hang it up as a reminder to thank and praise God. Read Psalm 136:1-3 and memorize verse 1. Why should we be thankful? Make a list of things you are thankful for.

  3. Friendship: Paint or draw a picture of your best friend. Hang it up as a reminder to pray for your best friend. You may also want to paint or draw a picture of yourself to give to your friend so that they remember to pray for you. Look up and memorize Proverbs 17:17. What kind of friend are you? What could you do to be a better friend?

  4. Picture of God: No one has seen God. What does He look like? What is He like? Paint or draw a picture of God and discuss what God is like with your leader or parent. Look up and memorize John 3:16. What does this tell you about God?

  5. What Iım afraid of: Paint or draw something that you fear. Read and memorize John 14:1. What is Jesus telling us about fear? How does this help you?

  6. Worry Wart: Create a creature that looks worried. You can paint him or draw him or make him out of air drying clay. What youıve created we will call a ³worry wart.² What makes you worry? Look up and read Matthew 6:25-34 and memorize verse 33. What does this passage tell you about worry? Display your Worry Wart somewhere as a reminder not to worry.

  7. Let the little children come to me: Look up and read Mark 10: 13-16 and memorize verse 14. What does this verse tell you about how Jesus feels about you? Draw a picture of yourself with Jesus.

  8. God made me special: Create a self portrait. What makes you special? If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be? Look up and memorize Psalm 139:14 What does this verse tell you about the way God made you?

  9. Godıs plan for me: Draw a picture of yourself doing what you want to do when you grow up. Read and memorize Jeremiah 1:5. God had a plan for Jeremiah before he was born. God has a plan for you too. Hang up your picture as a reminder to pray for God to help you to do his plan.

  10. What does God want from me? Read and memorize Ephesians 2:10. God made everyone for a purpose. Draw a picture telling why you think He made you. Pray asking God to show you more of His plan for you each day.

  11. Love is...: What is love? We all know about love but when you try to describe love itıs hard to do. Read and memorize 1 John 4:16 then make a poster to remind you of what this verse says.

  12. Full Armor of God. Make a picture of yourself. For this project you will need to draw your whole body. Cut the picture out. Now get another piece of paper to make armor for your picture. You will need to make a helmet, a shield, a belt, boots, a breastplate (a piece of armor that covers the body) and a sword. Paste these pieces to your picture. The read Ephesians 6:10-18 and memorize verse 11. Write what each of the parts of the armor mean on the armor. Why is it important to put on the full armor of God?

  13. My gifts: Each of us has special gifts or talents that God has given us. Draw a picture of yourself doing the gift that God has given you. Read and memorize 1 Peter 4:10. What does God want you to do with your gift.

  14. Fruit of the Spirit: Get a large, square piece of paper and divide it into nine equal boxes. Paint a different piece of fruit in each of the squares. Read and memorize Galatians 5:22-23. Write one of the fruits of the spirit on each of the pieces of fruit in your picture. Hang your picture as a reminder of the fruit of the Spirit.

  15. Pressing on: Somethings are hard to do. Some of those hard things are very important and so we have to do them even though itıs difficult. Draw or paint a picture of yourself doing something that is very difficult for you. Read Phillippians 3:12-14 and memorize verse 13. Now draw another picture of how you feel when you accomplish something that is hard for you. Following Jesus can be hard, but some day if you press on, and believe in Him, you will receive your reward!
