New Creation/Creatures Contest

2 Corinthians 5:17 says "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, He is a new creation, the old has gone and the new has come." The following are two ways to teach the concept of how Jesus changes lives.

This one is a fun way to drive home the point found in 2 Corinthians 5:17, That if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. Start off with a box of junk. Sorry I can't be more specific, but you need to use your imagination. Anything you can find is fair game and the sky's the limit on this project. You can go anywhere from taking a single object and having each kid find and demonstrate a new use for it (fun) to dividing your group into small groups and giving each one a box of junk and having a contest to see who can come up with the most useful, interesting, whacky, etc. project (a real blast). The idea is to take things that normally would have been thrown away and allowing the group to find a new use for it. Relate this to our condition in sin, compared to our new usefulness in Christ. It is a simple and fun way to drive home one of the most important points in all of Christianity. Have fun with this one.

New Creature Contest

In the King James Version, 2 Corinthians 5:17 rather than saying new creation says new creature. This can be a really fun way to look into the transforming power that Jesus has in our lives. Start off by gathering your group and having them list animals and what they represent, (dog, faithfulness; lion, bravery; etc.) Read 2 Corinthians 5:17 together as a group and then have them think about the changes they would like to make in their own lives. Have them create a creature that represents the traits they think they will have as Jesus transforms them as well as the changes he has already made. Have them explain why they chose the different parts then give them their pieces as a reminder that Jesus is changing them from the inside out.
