Music Tasting Party

In the church we do a lot of complaining about the messages in a lot of secular music. Yet what do we do about it. We have a Christian music industry that is putting out some awesome stuff and our kids aren't hearing it. So how do we expose them to the best Christian music? Hold a Music Tasting Party!
The music tasting party is a great event I learned about from Interlinc some time back. We used it with my group and it was fairly successful. The idea is simple really. Set up an area with CD players all around where people can check out great Christian Music. We went a step further with ours. We meet in a home. We used the upstairs rooms as ³Tasting² rooms. In the basement of the building we set up a Mobile DJ and a video projector and had a video concert, see above. The DJ brought colored lights and a fog machine. The result was almost like being at a real concert.
We obtained posters from a local Christian Bookstore to decorate the room and the same store donated a bunch of door prizes. We also obtained coupons from the store which we placed on the tables next to the CD¹s to help the people purchase CD¹s they liked. We did not charge any money for this event, we did it to expose people to the music and to reach out to our community. In order to be entered into the drawing, the people had to fill out an entry blank. We used the entry blanks to compile a mailing list.
Now you may be thinking, ³where can I get enough CD¹s to pull off a music tasting party?² The following are a few ideas:
- Borrow, borrow, borrow. Get them from friends and neighbors. You may even be able to borrow them from your local Christian book store.
